Harbor Club offers casual dining at the marina and at the Clubhouse. In recent years, another option has joined the area's dining scene: a reservation-worthy restaurant run by the same chef behind the marina's casual lake-day lunch spot.

His name is Casey Burchfield, and if you've eaten at the Boathouse or Table at the Lake recently, you've eaten his food without necessarily connecting the dots.

One chef, two very different restaurants

Burchfield moved to Lake Oconee in 2014 with his wife, Morgan, after years cooking in luxury resorts and working with Wolfgang Puck. During the pandemic, he started a small side business selling house-made seasonings and hot sauces under the name The Burch, then added catering. By 2021 it had grown into a full-time private chef service around the lake. In May 2022, The Burch became a full-service food truck parked at Oconee Brewing Company in Greensboro.

The bigger swing came in 2023, when Burchfield and business partner Jon Altizer Bieger opened Table at the Lake, an upscale dining room at 1010 Cowles Clinic Way. Then in the summer of 2025, Burchfield, Morgan, Jon and a fourth partner named Geoff took over the marina restaurant at Harbor Club, rebranding it The Burch x Boathouse. So the same kitchen sensibility that built Table at the Lake into a reservation-worthy destination is now also plating the counter-service burgers and fish tacos you pick up in a wet swimsuit at the marina.

That's the part worth sitting with. This isn't two unrelated restaurants that happen to share a zip code. It's one person's culinary range, stretched across two completely different registers, both just minutes from each other in Greensboro.

What a day at the marina actually looks like now

The Burch x Boathouse operates Thursday through Monday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., at 3991 Walker Church Road, just outside Harbor Club's east gate. It runs on counter service: you order at the window, get a buzzer, and pick up your tray of what the team calls Burch bites when it goes off. When you're done, you bus your own table, which keeps the turnover fast on a busy Saturday.

Weekend evenings bring live music to the patio, and during football season the screens inside switch over to game broadcasts, which has made it a default Sunday spot for people who want lake views without missing kickoff. You can tie up a boat at the dock or just park and walk in. Neither the menu nor the format asks you to choose between the two.

Table at the Lake built its reputation on sourcing from Georgia and regional farms and organizing its menu by category rather than course: land, sea, field, fire. Burchfield runs the kitchen while Bieger, who grew up in southwestern Virginia, oversees the front of house and beverage program.

If you've been putting off trying it, its wine-list recognition offers another reason to consider a reservation. That back-to-back recognition suggests it wasn't a fluke first-year nod.

Other Harbor Club amenities and gathering places

Beyond the restaurant handoff, The Grove, Harbor Club's 12-acre amenity campus, has quietly become the place where a lot of daily routines now happen. It includes:

• A mile-long mulched hiking trail plus a separate Fit-Trail with eight stations for stretching and strength work
• A quarter-mile running track
• Dog parks for both large and small dogs
• A Victory Garden and a Sanctuary Pond for fishing or just sitting still for a minute
• A sports field and event facility that hosts concerts and community gatherings

The Stables, once an actual equestrian barn on the property, has been converted into an event venue with a cedar outdoor chapel, and it's become one of the more requested spots on the property for weddings and private gatherings that don't need to leave the neighborhood.

Meanwhile, the Clubhouse Restaurant, designed by Stephen Fuller and overlooking the 18th green, hasn't been sitting still either. Chef Gregory Thigpen runs the kitchen there, with Jason Warner behind the bar, and the weekly Trivia and Music Game Show Nights have become enough of a fixture that regulars plan their week around them. Sunday brunch remains the other anchor.

Not long ago, a special-occasion dinner might have meant driving out of the county, while the marina offered a casual stop for a burger after a day on the water.
